Sunday Liturgy

  • Art and Environment

    The Art and Environment Ministry provides a worship space that reflects the liturgical season and is appropriate for specific services.


    Talents needed include artistic and/or floral arrangement experience, the ability to move objects and a desire to help design and decorate the worship environment.


    Time commitment varies between 4 and 30 hours/week depending on the season.

  • Eucharistic Ministers

    Eucharistic Ministers fully participate in the Eucharist and distribute Communion in a reverent fashion at the liturgy and to the sick and homebound.


    Training provided by the Diocese is required for all new Eucharistic Ministers.  Refresher training is also required after a number of years.


    The time commitment for the ministry varies depending on the number of visits to the sick.


    New Eucharistic Ministers are nominated by the parish Administrator, Fr. Robert Gurnick who be reached at (216) 861-5343.

  • Lectors

    Lectors proclaim the Word of God to the congregation in a way that will deepen their understanding.


    For this ministry, the talents/gifts required include a desire to share the Word of God with others, the ability to project well, and the ability to interpret scripture readings.


    Lectors are expected to appropriately prepare prior to reading.  New volunteers may be required to attend a workshop.

  • Music Ministry

    The Music Ministry leads and enhances prayer and worship through music.  


    There are volunteer opportunities for


    • the adult Choir at the Sunday 11:30 AM Mass
    • Cantors and instrumentalists for all Masses
    • Resurrection (funeral) Choir
    • Children’s Choir (seasonal)
    • The time commitment varies between 1 – 3 hours per week for these ministries.

  • Sacristans

    Sacristans coordinate the physical set-up of the church and altar prior to liturgy, ensure liturgical ministers are present and prepared and assist with post-liturgy tasks.


    Talents needed for this ministry include organizational skills and the ability to work with all ages.


    Time Commitment is 2 hours per liturgy (including time before and after Mass on weekends).

  • Altar Servers

    Altar Servers provide assistance to the celebrant during the liturgy and assist the sacristan in preparation and clean-up before and after the liturgy.


    Altar Servers must have received First Communion and training at St. Malachi.  While this ministry is traditionally filled with youth, adult Altar Servers are welcome as well.

  • Seasonal Liturgical Event Preparation

    The Liturgy Committee plans and prepares for Christmas, Holy Week, Easter and other special liturgies, for example, our annual Mass of Remembrance.


    Talents needed include an understanding of the liturgical seasons (Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week and Easter), a willingness to deepen one’s understanding of the seasons, a sense of ritual and willingness to deepen understanding of the various rites of the season and planning and organizational skills.


    Time commitment varies.

  • Ushers

    Ushers collect the weekly and special collections, offer assistance as needed and clean-up the pews and vestibules after Mass.


    Talents needed include the ability to be warm and friendly, promptness, knowledge about the church facility and the ability to remain after liturgy.


    Time commitment varies.
