Monday Night Meal

Since 1975, the Monday Night Meal at St. Malachi Church has served a free, home-cooked dinner to anyone in need of a good meal and friendly company. Each week, hundreds of guests enjoy a warm, sit-down dinner prepared and served by volunteers.

Dinner is served every Monday from 5:00–6:00 PM, and doors open for guests at 5:00 PM.

Behind the scenes, volunteers begin at 3:00 PM to set up the dining hall, reheat main dishes, and prepare side dishes, salads, fruit, and desserts. More volunteers arrive between 4:00 and 4:30 PM to set the tables, organize the serving line, and welcome guests. Cleanup is completed by 7:00 PM.

The main dishes are cooked at home by volunteers on a rotating schedule. Others contribute by bringing fresh fruit, salads, or bakery donations from local shops.

St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) is an international organization that responds locally to requests for assistance from neighbors in need. There are currently

63 SVDP parish groups across the Diocese of Cleveland. Once they learn of a request

for help, SVDP members visit the neighbor in need, gather information, pray with the

neighbor, and determine how they can help. Assistance can be offered by paying one

month’s rent to avoid an eviction, clearing a past due utility bill to prevent a shut-off, or

delivering beds, bedding and furniture. Blessed Frederic Ozanam, a 19th century

French scholar and founder of the Society, envisioned an organization demonstrating

its spirituality, and developing friendships among the poor and its members, through

service to those in need. St. Patrick Parish with St. Malachi Oratory will fulfill this

vision, sustain the mission of the St. Malachi Mother Teresa ministry, and build on the

good work of our current St. Patrick SVDP conference, by forming a new Society of St.

Vincent de Paul parish conference. Prospective members of this group should expect

two one-hour meetings per month. Work will also include periodically visiting those

requesting assistance, organizing the requests, fundraising, and promoting the mission.
